Can Pro Ingredients Begins Production at New Plant

For Immediate Release: January 25, 2008

Arborfield and Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada – Can Pro Ingredients Ltd. (“Can Pro” or the “Company”) announced today that it has commenced production of new canola protein concentrates at its plant in Arborfield.

As part of its previously announced facility construction and scale up, Can Pro has established sample scale production to meet growing demand from ingredients purchasers. It is anticipated that approximately 20,000 kg of canola protein concentrate will be produced over the next few months. The plant will also generate feed grade canola oil samples for market development purposes. Full commercial production is anticipated for the second quarter of 2008.

Dr. David Maenz, Chief Scientific Officer of Can Pro said, “Production is in line with expectations and meets the composition of matter criteria specified in the issued patent claims that Can Pro has licensed from MCN BioProducts Inc. (“MCN”)”. In April 2007, Can Pro licensed technology, including issued patents, from MCN covering methods of fractionating canola meal and composition of matter over both insoluble and soluble protein concentrates.

Dr. Maenz continued, “Product yields are also meeting expectations due to successful scale up of the MCN fractionation technology as well as implementation of low temperature canola seed processing methodologies which preserve protein quality for maximum recovery during the meal
processing phase.”

Todd Lahti, President & CEO of Can Pro said, “Construction of the commercial plant is on target and this smaller scale production effort is part of the scale up plan, allowing testing of equipment, training of operators and sample generation for market development.”

In April 2007, Can Pro announced acquisition of an existing agricultural processing facility, licensing of technology from MCN and financing to construct a new canola processing facility which will produce canola oil and canola protein concentrates for the animal/aqua feed and pet food industries. The canola protein concentrate has been extensively tested through seven years of feeding trials in swine, salmon, trout, shrimp and other species conducted by feed manufacturers as well as academic and government institutions.
