October 31, 2007

Release Date: October 31, 2007

Customized version of Software Communications Architecture enabled SDR-4000 to be deployed.

BURNABY, BRITISH COLUMBIA, Oct 31, 2007 (Marketwire via COMTEX News Network) —
Spectrum Signal Processing by Vecima (“Spectrum”) (TSX:VCM), a provider of software defined radio (SDR) technology, today announced that an International defense prime will be using SDR-4000 technology in their next program. The contract calls for an immediate initial delivery of two SDR-4000 Tactical MILCOM Rapid Deployment Platforms (TMRDP), that provide an RF-to-Ethernet software defined radio solution. Subsequent deliveries include customizations of this platform specific for the customer’s program. The $3.1M of products and services shall be delivered over the next 12 months.

“This is the mode of customer engagement that we have been seeking. Their software development begins immediately on the existing SDR-4000-TMRDP. Concurrent with their software development initiative, Spectrum is customizing a configuration specifically for their deployment requirements,” said Mark Briggs, VP of Marketing at Spectrum. “The deliverables include existing product, customized products, training, services, and support, for our small form factor, rugged SDR-4000 platform.”

“This is a production win for the new SDR-4000 product line,” said Dr. Surinder Kumar, President and CEO of Vecima Networks Inc. “While we are not at liberty to discuss details of the customer and the program, the fact that the customer required Software Communications Architecture (SCA) enabled modems, validates that there is demand for this field deployable product offering.”

The SDR-4000-TMRDP rugged wireless modem is packaged in a small 3U CompactPCI(R) form-factor that is conduction-cooled. The modem architecture consists of software reconfigurable processor technology combined into an integrated package that is size, weight and power optimized for deployment in harsh environments and where power is limited. It includes an Operating System, an Object Request Broker, and an SCA.
